Rob > Mt. Hood as seen from Highway 35.

Location: Parkdale, Oregon

Lens used: 17-55mm f2.8 IS
Rob > Orange light from a dipping sun baths McCall Point.

The mountain in the distance is Washington's Mt. Adams. The river is the Columbia.

Lens used: 17-40mm f4.0
Rob > A robust spread of alpine wildflowers makes a nice, albeit angled foreground to a splashing waterfall.

This is the first picture I've taken with my new (and absurdly expensive) Singh-Ray Vari-ND Duo filter that I felt has been worthy of posting. Undoubtedly, there'll be lots more interesting shots utilizing it forthcoming, but to really figure out that particular filter may take me a little while - it's a beast with a learning curve.

I particularly like the degree of movement captured in the waterfall in this shot - mid-splash sorta. All I need to do now is to remember this shutter speed for the next time I go to the coast or shoot another cascade so I can do it again!

Location: Heather Foothills, Mt. Hood Meadows ski area, Oregon

Lens used: 24-105mm f4.0 IS w/Vari-ND Duo filter
Rob > B & W has always scared me somewhat - stemming from a lack of experience with it, most likely.

Here's a rare example of one of my B & W photos. I can't say I'm thrilled with the result, but it's okay. I'd be curious to hear your opinion about my photo treatment of this image or about tips to help me turnout better black-and-white images in general.

The ray of light was shining on a point in the fabulous Columbia River Gorge in the late afternoon.

Location: Near Mosier, Oregon

Lens used: 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 IS
Rob > Taken from on top of McCall Point looking west down the Gorge.

I must disclose that this photo saw pretty major Photoshop work to remove a big blotch of flare. Though I'm happy overall with the result, you can still see signs of what I did if you know what to look for. Otherwise, the only post-processing work was some tonal adjustments and some sharpening.

Lens used: 17-55mm f2.8 IS w/2 stop Grad ND filter
Rob > Taken from a roadside pull off just east of Mosier.

I think I used a 2 stop Grad ND filter with this shot, but don't fully recall anymore.

Lens used: 10-22mm f3.5-4.5
Rob > Taken from atop Mitchell Point just off I-5 west of Hood River.

Lens used: 17-40mm f4.0 w/3 stop Grad ND filter
Rob > Taken from the popular road-side pull out just up from the ODOT sand shed on Hwy 35 in Parkdale while on my way home from work one day in December.

Handheld with a 2 stop Grad ND filter.

Lens used: 28-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS
Rob > View out over the lower Hood River valley from the East Hills.

The rays of light shining down through the clouds were being quite dramatic this particular afternoon. Of the dozen or so shots I took, I felt this one the most interesting and 'balanced'.
